Located in Orlando, Florida the The Coral Rescue Center (FCRC) is a state-of-the-art facility established for gene banking coral. It is the largest coral nursery in America: comprised of 18 aquariums, nearly 6,000 gallons of water, and 24/7 working staff to keep the final coral species on earth alive! I took a tour to learn more about a deadly disease threatening our oceans.

George This was amazing. I lived in the Keys for 15 years. Keep bringing this to your channel. Awareness is the only key to saving the Reef. If you ever get the chance, go diving off the Keys!!
They should absolutely aquaculture Caribbean coral for the reef aquarium trade. Hobbyists have gained immense knowledge on keeping these animals alive, and with the natural peril they are in, we need all the genetics of coral available.

Another issue that is hurting the reefs is the beach replenishment that they are doing on the east side of FL. They will not admit that they are sending billions of pounds of fine and larger particles into the water that have been settled for millions of years to the south and also to a degree to the north as well. The massive disturbance the beach replenishment is causing is covering the very upper reefs and they keep saying that it does not matter because those reefs are almost dead any way. A big issue with this is that they know they are killing the reefs every where by this practice, but too many people are making millions off of it so they will try to BS the public with rhetoric about tourism and sea turtles needing the new sand because …reasons.

If the disease kills 90% of the coral, what are the conservationists doing to propagate the 10% of survivors? Seems like whatever made that 10% not susceptible to the disease is something you'd want to encourage.
