Aquariums can be a great way for kids to learn about nature, responsibility, and patience – especially when the whole experience is designed around them.
In this video, we set up the EHEIM aquafamily, a beginner-friendly aquarium created specifically for families and children. We build a simple low-tech aquascape using easy epiphyte plants and mosses, test the included equipment, and see how the aquafamily app guides young aquarists through feeding, maintenance, fish care, quizzes, and even fun lighting effects.

I have a quick question. I know green aqua recommends soft water. You also recommend clithon corona snails. How do you balance soft water while keeping their shells healthy?
Low tech is not only for kids, I am an adult and still love it. Its so much easyer on long term with less algue issues. High-tech is more for short term aquariums, if you rescape the tank once or twice a year.
A Juwel tank is a better choice if you want an internal filter.

I really like the idea, but I don’t like what you get for a premium price – float glass, preset heater, and a simple internal filter. Only the light is controlled via the app, so it seems a bit pointless to promote the whole set as ”smart”. The same is for the premium aquariums lineup. Eheim Incpiria comes with a float glass (unless one is able to spend a fortune on Incpiria Pure), come on, Eheim.
The new smart canister filters are 🤌💪🔥 though. Very happy with my 250 vario+e, looking forward into buying 5e 600T.

Nice. It's good to give kids an opportunity to set up a natural aquarium. But why are we then getting kids hooked into this belief that we can't do anything without an app, or that we need a screen to learn. Before using apps kids need to develop the capacity to take on tasks, problem solve, find their own strategies to be organised. Build tanks. Build kids' brains.

I think a Juwel Rio 125 would be a much better choice for children a great fixed inside filter with all sponges accessible from the top and place for the heater. Easily 4 times the sponge capacity of this small internal filter and very easy to maintain a clean and Cristal clear aquarium and for your biomedia.the child doesnt need to disconnect the electricity and make a lot of mess with cleaning the Eheim internal filter. Just lift the upper basket out in a small basket with Juwel and squeeze the sponges in aquariumwater. Also the heater is safe in his own compartiment in the internal filter not laying around in the aquarium. Mich safer for children. Then you have the lids, the Eheim has one big lid the whole surface of the aquarium. The Juwel has two light weight lids, easy for children to lift up the front lid, make contact with the fish with feeding and rearrange something in the aquarium while the light stays on the aquarium. If you lift the big Eheim thing, your light is also gone!
